Shelter is a basic human need, but a home offers much more—it brings comfort, security, and peace of mind. At Realtor.com, we go beyond facilitating real estate transactions; in so many ways, we help bring people home. This Home Ownership Month—and every month—we’re passionate about breaking down barriers and empowering consumers through education and support. No matter their role, our employees take pride in doing work that truly matters.

Realtor.com's Tempe Team Working with Habitat for HumanityA shining example of our commitment is our partnership with Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that helps deserving families build and improve homes. Habitat works in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home.

“Partnering with Habitat for Humanity aligns beautifully with Realtor.com’s heartfelt commitment to helping individuals and families achieve their dreams of homeownership,” said Michael Streffery, Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Philanthropy. “By supporting Habitat, Realtor.com deepens its impact, helping to make owning a home accessible for those who need it most.”

Realtor.com had the privilege of collaborating with Habitat at two recent home-building projects, one in Tempe and the other in Austin. It was especially inspiring to see our employees on the ‘front lines,’ actively contributing and making a real difference in the lives of those in need of housing.

The team hard at work buildingLaunched in February and set to be completed by year’s end, Habitat’s Tempe project maximizes land use where only three single-family homes would have fit, effectively serving four times the number of families in the same amount of space. Among the residents will be a diverse group of individuals including a single male, 11 female heads of households, and their children.

Rebecca Faries, Customer Care Lead, Email/Chat Support, said that participating in the build brought together employees from various departments in their Scottsdale office, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration. “It was truly special to step out of our usual roles and work alongside a family on something so impactful,” Rebecca shared. “One of the most memorable moments was meeting the future homeowner. We felt connected not just to each other but to the wider community.”

Nick Nerone, Inbound Customer Care Manager, shared his enthusiasm and the sense of community he felt during the event. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to drive by a house you’ve worked on and see the tangible results of your efforts,” Nick said.

Realtor.com's Austin Team at Habitat BuildVictor Vergara, a Realtor.com Recruiter who participated in the build event hosted in Austin, expressed a deep connection to the project, given his lifelong commitment to community service in his hometown. “Learning that we were building homes for people like postal workers or elementary school teachers really underscores the importance of what we are doing,” Victor said. “It’s gratifying to know there are still avenues for housing affordability here.”

Clint Chegin, Director of Data Science, observed the evolving character of the neighborhood, appreciating how the area retains its historical essence while adapting to modern needs, particularly near the Austin Community College campus. “I was born here in Austin and have seen the city become less and less affordable,” Clint said. “It’s important to support these projects so we can keep the culture of the city intact and make Austin a great place for everyone to live.”

Two people smile at the camera wearing hard hats.Realtor.com’s partnership with Habitat helps address the ongoing affordable housing crisis. The impact of Habitat for Humanity projects is significant for communities and the families who qualify. Thanks to this meaningful work, 94% of homeowners now feel safe in their homes, with 65% reporting better physical health. What’s more, 80% of children’s grades improved and 41% of adults were able to complete an educational or job training program.

“Collaboration with companies like Realtor.com is pivotal for making projects like this successful,” said Erika Alam, Senior Development Manager, Austin Habitat for Humanity. “Sponsorships and volunteer efforts are instrumental in bringing these projects to fruition, providing much-needed stability to local families.”
